The Artist

Alan B Scarritt (1945-2023) was a pioneer of the conceptual art movement in California and New York in the late 20th century.

In the mid-1970s, Scarritt was one of the first artist to incorporate principles of physics and applied mathematics to contemporary art, earning him the moniker “the Einstein of Art” in industry circles in the San Francisco area.

Over a 50-year career as an artist, he worked in painting, drawing, sculpture, photography, video, sound, installation, and performance art. His work has been exhibited with friends and contemporaries Joseph Bueys, Vito Acconci, Tom Marioni, and Nam June Paik.
